The Wooden Bridge is a Dublin lamdmark familiar to all ). It is located at the southern end of Bull Island, connecting the Clontarf/Dollymount area of the mainland to the island.
It was originally built in 1819 to facilitate the construction of the North Bull Wall, a major civil engineering project designed to deepen the channel into Dublin Port. It was intended to be temporary but was preserved due to public demand from locals who had grown fond of the area. The current structure dates back to a replacement built between 1906 and 1907.
The construction of the Bull Wall and the bridge led to the inadvertent creation and growth of Bull Island due to natural silting, forming a significant natural habitat and recreational area.
